The Lash Lab - Q&A with Heidi Rene, Lash Expert

Amber: Do you have any skincare or self-care rituals you never skip?

Heidi: "My nighttime routine and daily Sunblock. Even if I skip my morning routine (some weekend days) I still do Sunblock. And I NEVER skip my night routine."

What’s your go-to product or treatment that you swear by?

"The acne topical for 30 minutes, anything longer than 2 hours dries my skin out and makes it worse, but this has drastically changed my skin for the positive. Then HA & Beta G, it has made my skin so much more hydrated without being sticky."

Do you have a favorite beauty hack or secret?

"Korean sunscreens feel so much better than ours, if you ABHOR the feeling of U.S. sunscreens, definitely come try our Korean ones."

What’s one common misconception about spa treatments that you’d like to clear up

"That lash extensions are inherently harmful to natural lashes. They are not. But they do need to be treated with some care after application, and your lash artist should make sure that they are applied correctly and are not too long or heavy for your naturals. These are the two places where damage can happen, it’s a team effort to protect your natural lashes. Also your eyes or extensions shouldn’t hurt after or during an appointment."

What is your advice for someone looking to get lash extensions?

"Know that it’s a team effort on the part of your lash artist and you to keep them looking good. Washing daily is necessary, as is some easy aftercare to protect your investment. It seems like a lot at the beginning but the aftercare is good hygiene and eye safety habits, and they become second nature."

What’s your favorite way to relax or pamper yourself on a day off?

"Drinking my coffee with quiet instrumental music and a slow morning start."

What’s your favorite spa treatment to get as a client?

"Lash lift, sauna, acne peels"

What's your morning skincare routine?

"Cleanser, toner, l-mandelic, vit c, moisturize hydrate 2, sunscreen (spf 50/pa++++)"

What is your evening skincare routine?

"Cleanse acne meds for 30 minutes rinse toner HA & Beta G

moisturize // peptide

Once a week: skip HA & beta G, and use Retinol instead"

What are some every day favorites we don't stock at the SPA?

"My waterpik and silk pillow cases and sheet. I still floss everyday but the waterpik is amazing! My silk pillowcases and top sheet keep me both warm and cool, they are the perfect temp regulator and feel great on skin - and it is important to state silk not satin, satin is hot and doesn’t breathe"
