Lash Extensions vs. Lash Lifts: What’s the Difference?

Updated: Aug 26

If you're looking to enhance your eyelashes but aren't sure where to start, you might be wondering about the differences between lash extensions and lash lifts.

Both treatments can give you beautiful, eye-catching lashes, but they do so in different ways - it ultimately comes down to your personal preference and lifestyle. Here's a simple guide to help you understand each option!

Start Here:

What is a Lash Lift?

A lash lift is a semi-permanent treatment that curls and lifts your natural lashes from the base, giving them a more lifted and elongated appearance. It enhances what you already have without adding anything extra.

What are Lash Extensions?

Lash extensions are individual false lashes that are applied to your natural lashes using a special adhesive. These are more customizable, and can provide a fuller, longer, and more dramatic look.

Lash Lifts

Procedure

A Lash Lift is done by attaching your natural lashes to a silicone rod, then applying a lifting and setting solution. The process takes about 30-45 minutes.

Duration

The results from a lash lift can last anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks, depending on your lash growth cycle. As your natural lashes grow out, the lifted effect will gradually diminish.

Lash Extensions

Procedure

A lash technician meticulously applies each extension to an individual natural lash. This detailed process can take anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours, but the results are immediately noticeable.

Duration

Lash extensions require regular touch-ups every 2 to 3 weeks to maintain their fullness. As your natural lashes shed, the extensions will fall and/or grow out with them.

Which One is Right for You?

Consider a Lash Lift If:

  • You prefer a fully natural look.

  • You want a low-visit to the spa option.

  • You have naturally long lashes that just need a bit of enhancement.

Consider Lash Extensions If:

  • You desire a more dramatic, fuller look.

  • You're okay with regular touch-ups.

  • You want to add length and/or volume that your natural lashes don't have.
